Just because Microsoft are nagging you to do it don't think you HAVE to do it.

If you are on W7 and like it then stick with it.

There are all sorts of marketing and technical reasons WHY Microsoft want us all to move to W10, it is not really for our benefit but theirs.

You have until June 2016 to get the free upgrade so don't rush.

Before installation commences you will be given the option to preserve your files and settings. Make sure you select that option.

When the installation completes your desktop and settings should look very similar to your Win 7.

If you have been used to using Internet Explorer that will be replaced with the latest Microsoft Browser called 'EDGE'. Having said that the previous Windows 7 Internet Explorer is still available but is not listed in any of the Windows Application menus.

Just my thoughts on the upgrade ... Microsoft doesn't plan to stop fixing security problems in Windows 7 until extended support ends. That's January 14, 2020--five years and a day from the end of mainstream support.

If that doesn't put you at ease, consider this: XP's mainstream support ended in April, 2009. It caused no problems whatsoever. Millions continued to use XP for another five years without dire consequences. Windows 7 won't be any different.

Why not sit tight and let the rest find all the bugs in windows 10 that Microsoft have missed.

once installed check over all the security and privacy settings as it has more spyware enabled than you can get from a Chinese intelligence officer.

I bit the bullet and installed, seems ok so far, things look a bit different but everything seems to work except I appear to have lost my adblock so I'm back to an all singing and dancing AB site (which will please Ed.)
Is there anything can be done about this please?

I'm reading posts like this Khandro because I am also being nagged to install Windows 10.
I don't want it, I'm currently using Windows 8.1 which I hate.
Seeing VHG mention we have until June 2016 has put my mind at rest.

^^^if I had W8, I'd definitely upgrade to W10. As I have W7, I'm leaving well alone for at least 6 months more.

I've used Windows 3, XP, 7, 8, 8.1 and much prefer 10 to anyone of them

Had w10 from day 2. Use edge browser, and love defender security. Over time I have used w7 wxp w8 and w8:1 w10 is better than them all. I grant that you have to relearn a little once again, but I am glad I bit the bullet. We all look for the latest in cars and electrical goods but strangely seem to want to hang on to old operating systems when it comes to computers and the like. The Microsoft tech blogs are great, and help will always be given to those who ask for it, as Dumbledore said to Potter.

I'm glad you posted, Togo. It's a fact that we hear all about problems people have with anything, but rarely when things go well.

just latterly on Windows7(I think) about 8 boxes used to appear with frequently used sites, which I found very handy. They didn't appear on this new lap-top/note-book. Is there a way of getting that 'feature' back up? (i'm on windows10 now)

Do you mean when you open a new tab, svejk? If so, which browser do you use?

Funnily enough something very similar to what I wanted has started to appear. It's called 'where to next'. It only has 2 (out of 8) of my regular sites (AB and 'hot ladyboys') The rest are things like e-bay, which I don't use. I'd imagine, as I use it more, it will 'fill up' with MY regular sites.
