Am disappointed to find I can no longer get my information text, you know when you go into BBC - hit the red button, green button etc. and that gives you a load of daily news, etc.
My last TV Samsung had no problem so just wonder why Sony don't have it. Thanks for any answers.
I;m just thinking would it have anything to do with Samsung only being Freeview and Sony is Smart. Mind you I can go back and forth from the freeview to Smart and it was always the Freeview that gave you this option/service.
thanks Barry - so engrossed in trying to get teletext that I forgot momentarily about google - have been able to sign in to BBCIplayer but when I want the news - it gives me Sky and others but nothing locally.
I use the red button service but in no way is it quicker or more informative than the internet, Jenny.
You still wouldn't have known who TJ Doheny was if you'd read the result on the red button.
I recently bought a new LG TV, and can't get Red Button info (weather, sport etc) on it. I think they assume that as it's a smart TV you don't need it.
thanks Barry for your great help but that Iplayer too much faff - when you were just able to glance at the teletext and got info so much quicker.
I will have to forget it - mind you I do still have the old Samsung 40" (waiting for an owner) which I'm in too minds to put in the bedroom which would replace 32" (with dvd player). So who knows
What is the model of your tv? You gave the serial number for the remote control earlier, not the tv. It will be on your manual, usually the front cover.
Also, look at the manual itself for information about the red button service.
I've made my mind up - I'm bringing the Samsung up to replace the 32" because I have a firestick to go with it which would give me (on Youtube) any DVDs I would like to see. Then can throw the DVDs out or give them to the Thrifty (2nd hand shops).
"look at the manual"...yes, good idea - but you may well have not got a printed hard-copy of the manual.
My LG Smart TV has an "e-manual" built into the set, which you access from "Settings".
I've not used the BBC red button service for some time now, but I'm pretty sure it used to work in a similar way to teletext (3 digit page numbers, etc.) on my Samsung TV. Tried it just now though and it has changed to just being a 'front end' to iPlayer.
Just checked on my Sony tv and I have to press the teletext button, not the red button. Page 9990 of the teletext service confirms that the service is not closing and gives a full update
Start by having the TV on one of the BBC Radio stations - they all start with a 7 in Freeview. Eg channel 704 on Freeview. Then try pressing the red button. Works for us.
