Is it possible to arrange desktop icons into groups to be positioned in different area's on the desktop?

Yes, just drag and drop them. I once had different colour segments as a background, and each colour representing a different use. ie, one bit for just games, one for utilities, etc.


The trouble is, having taken that trouble, it is so easy to lose it accidentally or whenever you "arrange" icons, so I don't bother now.

You probably have "Auto Arrange" set on to do it for you, thats why your asking!!


Try right clicking on ur desktop, go to "arrange icons" (i'm on w2k at work so may differ if ur on XP) and uncheck "auto arrange".


That will let you move the icons around to your hearts content!!!

Thanks for the answers.


I was aware that 'autoarrange' needs to be switched off, but there is an option 'show in groups' but this is greyed out. Anyone know how to use this option and whether this can help to do what I want?
