I have a strange sound problem with the PC.

I tried to install a video recording card with no luck as i couldnt find the right drivers so i took it out again.

This hijacked my sound card and stopped any sound playing.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and I now have sound when playing music through media player and when watching videos from BBC News.

But I do not have any windows sounds or any sound from Internet Explorer web pages like youtube but i do from BBC videos.

Any idea why I am getting some sound but not all?

It sounds very much as though you need to restore your original sound card settings in your BIOS, though I'm surprised you were unable to fit your video capture card. The drivers should've been on a CD or floppy you received with it.

Sometimes these drivers load themselves but sometimes you have to go into your Device Manager and installing the drivers that way.

If you need to know how this is done come back and I'll give you my email addy when perhaps I can of more help.

I got the video card ages ago and cant find the drivers disk.

It was to run cctv but ive set it up on a tv now so i dont need it.

The sound card is not the original card. The driver is a CMI8738.

It appears to be installed fine. Just dont get why some of the sound isnt working.
