Greetings! I have changed drives in a computer from CD-ROM to DVD/CD R/W. The comp won't recognise video files, although it plays a downloaded WMV vid without any problem. Any idea what I am doing wrong please? Cheers. Mike C.
Do audio CDs/DVD movies still play? Is the drive viewable in "My Computer" or Control Panel --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager?
Is it the only drive you have? If it is, are the jumpers on the back set to "Master"? If you have 2 drives, are they set up as Master/Slave correctly??
What exactly do you mean by "the computer won't recognise video files?" Do you mean that it won't play DVDs? Most DVD drives come with a DVD player of some sort, did you install the software that came with the drive?
If you don't have suitable player software, have a look at this:
Thanks guys!
I finally worked out that I do not have the right software to decode DVD's.
I am going to try:

I really only need something to make DVD's play on Windows Media Player.
Cheers.
