Can't put onto disc.
14 Answers
I download (legally) TV progs rom UKNova, but some of them won't go onto dvd-R disc so I can't watch them on the tv. Lots of them are Ok and work but the "bad" one have the little folder symbol (as do the others) but when I go to play them they don't open if you know what I mean. Is there a reason for this, and anything I can do to remedy it. Many thanks.

It will play avi or divx or xvid unless the format is incorrect .. like the size too big . or sample rate too high. Home players usually play an .avi size up to 720x576 max. It will also play mpeg1, mpeg2 (as DVD VOB format) and some like newer Philips also play WMV. If you have an .mkv, or a VOB, most players will not play without converting to a standardised avi or to DVD first.
You need to know what format you have .. using Mediainfo or GSpot to see if you need to convert first. If you convert to DVD, you cannot then use as a data disc in most home players.

Hold on a mo, does your version of Nero have the function "burn a video DVD"?
If so, that should be ok and the problem lies elsewhere.
I don't like Nero, I found it messed up my system something rotten; taking over everything and generally making a niusance of itself, then I found it was a project and a half to remove it !

You do NOT have to burn everything to DVD to watch on a home player, you know.
If I have video files that are not DVD, I burn a multisession data DVD and keep adding til full. I just make sure the burned data will be supported by the player.
Home players play 'open' discs these days (and all the sessions)

Yes all my dvd players play dvix, and nearly all the progs download to disc pefectly alright, just the odd occasional one doesn't. Some timesthe dvd player says "Not supported file" or "wrong file content", but other downloaded one work ok. I use dvd -R disc 4.700 gb, but am very ignorant as to avi, mp4 etc.
OK .. Now we're getting somewhere .. Yes you just have un-supported files that's all.
Download MediaInfo ..
http://sourceforge.ne...ows_i386.exe/download
That will help you checkout the file(s)
There are a few apps that will do it .. but I convert to divx/avi with TMPgenc 4 Xpress. You can just selec a Home Theatre profile with one or two pass encoding.
