I have been quoted a price of £960 for a return ticket to Brisbane, £500 for the ticket and £460 for taxes. Can anybody explain what all this money for taxes comprises of?

Couple of years ago I got an online deal with Lufthansa for a UK to Singapore return flight for a mere £437. (BA wanted £1500!!)The invoice showed the price breakdown. Basic Fare - £145!! The balance was all security levy, departure tax, etc, etc.

It's the same on any flight. Go to Spain - ticket £50, eventual price for both of us, more than £300
