Probably quite easy to get married.

However it would not give him the right to stay in the country - he would have to apply for a spouse visa.
I think, but am not certain, he'd have to come home to apply for it.
What he would need to do is marry her and then apply for a change in residency. It would mean that he would not be able to leave the country for a while though. Be prepared for the nightmare of the immigration system, they would be best off using a lawyer. He could also marry her and then return to UK and then apply for a K3 visa as the spouse of an American and then once that was approved he would be able to enter the country.
they could be married, but he would have to return to Britain to apply for his spouse visa. This should not take long to process but it is longer than a couple weeks. He will have to be interviewed, get a physical and show proof of income. He should also get a US tax reference number and this can be got by his wife when she files her tax return. She should contact the embassy in britain for more information and the IRS regarding the tax number. all the best!
If he gets married, he does not necessariy have to get a lawyer. He can download the forms from the USA immigration web site (do not use the many agencies websites because there's a fee) or go to the immigration office and get the forms, they are free. The forms are easy to complete. A lawyer will charge you an arm an a leg (they charge in the thousands and some of them rip you off) especially now that they are being more strict with the marrige sponsorship. He can do everything himself for free. I know this for a fact because my sister us a US citizen and she married an European. She did everything herself. From the time the form were mailed out, in one months' time he had his Green Card. She now resides in his country and has become a resident of his country.
