Anyone got any recommendations? I'd like to be in the 'hotel quarter', near the Opera House and Bridge. Have looked at a lot of websites and am leaning to either the Marriott or Four Points by Sheraton, as ones like the Four Seasons and Shangri La look very expensive. After all, I'll only be sleeping there! Thanks for any info.

Thats where we stayed, pretty much in the middle between the two, and when you book ( we phoned) if you ask nicely you even get a room with an opera house view.

Only downside was the parking, they pretty much expected you to leave your car with the valet parking guys when you checked in, and not use it again untill you left, not a problem for us but it may upset some.
We stayed in Darling Harbour as it was quite a bit cheaper than near the Opera House / Bridge. It was then easy to get anywhere we wanted by bus or taxi and it was even just about walkable to the Bridge area. Also there were loads of restaurants in Darling Harbour so you could go out at night to eat without having miles to get home.
When in Sydney, I tend to stay in the Holiday Inn on George Street, which is in the Rocks.

I highly recommend it. Good location, good views and rooftop swimming pool.

2min walk to the Shangra La for cocktails.
