Is it obligatory to check in online with EasyJet, or an you just turn up at the airport?

I think you can but they charge you an arm and a leg to do it.

yes, they have a long period when you can do this so you should be able to print out boarding passes for both outward and return flights before you leave home. (Saves messing round looking for a printer while you're away.)
