how do you know when a mango is ripe? bought 3 at the weekend 2 are green the other is green with some red on it its a little bit soft cut it open this morning (and my thumb lol)

if i put them near banannas will they ripen quicker

There are a score or so varieties of mango. Many differ in appearnce when ripe, so testing is usually done by checking the firmness. Putting the mango in a brown paper bag with a banana will certainly speed up ripening. There's more from Waitrose here
