Eddie, you're missing the point. The people who are complaining are not complaining because they don't understand the law. They're complaining because they think the law doesn't adequately address the crime in certain circumstance s. How difficult is that to understand?

As Naomi(BA), seems to have grasped the question is primarily rhetorical. Based on exasperation of the current law on these matters. Islay seems to enjoy attacking the questioner rather than enter into the spirit of what is clearly intended and Eddie is like a broken record spouting what we already know ad infinitum as if we are forbidden to question it.
Naomi - // andy-hughes, a civilised country we may be but there’s a hole in your lecture.
//serves up the justice that is deemed appropriate.//
But it doesn’t – and at 17:19 Tue you agreed that it doesn’t. The punishment very often does not fit the crime - the whole point of this thread. //
I prefer "opinion" to 'lecture" but never mind.
I am surprised that you have misinterpreted my point.
I was very careful to say 'what is deemed to be appropriate' - and by that, I mean deemed by the legal system.
That does not always chime with what we he concerned citizens may think is appropriate, and indeed it often doesn;t, as I pointed out.
But it is still as decided by the deciders, do the 'hole' in my point is actually not there, I am sure you will now agree.
