How sad, and how shocking that they continue to allow it to happen?

I don't feel the need to defend my levity but please, relate it in an anecdote the next time you're dining with The Spands.

I know this much is true.

One of the last paragraphs in this article about it

May well be the defence from his lawyers that they may try to use. “Emotional but weirdly unemotional. He seemed to understand some things but not others”

Don't think it will come up, I wouldn't want people I know thinking I associate with someone who thinks fatal shootings are a joking matter, but at least it has amused one of your cohorts.
He does is to get a rise Andy, don't play the game.
^ does it
Time to cut a long story short.
Ooh, see your cohort and raise you a clique. :-)

You are quite right of course.

I made my point, I shall leave it there.
"A gun owner would far rather have their arms cut off than give up a gun."
Hmmm... That could work.
It's not the guns that are the problem. It's the mind set of the people using them. If a person is so deranged as to want to kill then they will find a gun no matter how much control or restrictions are placed on them. When this latest gunman is brought into court he will probably be ---'a young loner with mental health problems.' More and more young people not only in the US but over here in the UK seem to be suffering with mental health issues . How to solve it I wouldn't know. Here in the UK we have a big problem with knife related killings but there again you can't ban the sale of knives. That wouldn't solve the problem. There must be millions of knives in the UK but we are not all tempted to take a knife to murder someone .The problem is too big and complicated and unless someone comes up with a miraculous answer it will only get worse.
It's not the guns that are the problem, it's the easy access to them. Limit access and numbers gradually reduce. The mindset of the violent isn't going to change. There will always be dangerous individuals. It's the mindset of the majority stating that they need guns to protect them from people with guns.

Knives are a problem too, but you can't kill loads at long range with a knife. They're not that comparable.
I wasn't comparing guns with knives. No amount of restrictions on the availability of either weapon will have any effect whatsoever on a deranged individual with murder on his mind. They will get their weapon somehow.

Restrictions on the availability of weapons will limit the damage a deranged individual can do. That after all is the point of restrictions.
andy-hughes, me a ‘cohort’? Not at all – and nothing to do with Douglas’ initial joke. Just my appreciation of his subsequent suggestion - which stuck me as rather astute. :o)
*struck*
The guns / access to guns debate is on a level with the chicken / egg debate, except the second is easily answered.

It's the combination of access to guns, and the ongoing gun culture that makes this problem insurmountable.

Republicans like President Trump can entirely embrace the gun culture because it chimes perfectly with his voting demographic. Democrats like President Obama can make a few noises in their last term, but nothing too much because it is easy capital for the Republicans to beat them with.

Nothing will ever change until the frontier mentality that afflicts so many millions of Americans is bred out of them, and that shows no sign of being even close.
Eddie, //More people have been killed in school shootings than by military action! //

News relating to this year - with added dramatic effect ..... but why would the US military be shooting people right now?
