I'm getting my first tattoo tomorrow, has anyone got any advice on how to make it hurt less or stop the blood?

The way I would describe it is that it's like having a table knife pushed into your skin firmly, but without breaking it. Not exactly nice, but not enough to cause pain as such. There should not be any blood, perhaps just a very slight amount around the edges of the tattoo. The tattooist will clean and disinfect the skin and should recommend Calendula cream, which is available in most chemist's. You should apply this cream for 4-5 days after the tattoo is done in order to soothe the skin. Also, whatever you do, don't get it wet for a good 48 hours. Hope it goes well!
It does hurt (and I have had babies, so I know pain ;o)
The only thing I can suggest is to relax your body as much as possible and breathe..that sounds stupid, but we do tend to hold our breath when we are in a bit of pain!. If you breathe deeply it will allow your natural endorphins to work as they should.
There will be no blood ~ there are sometimes little droplets which the tattooist wipes as they go along, but it won't bleed afterwards. saintjohnny has given good advice regarding the calendula cream. If your tattooist is good they will give you some helpful info regarding aftercare.
Good luck :o)

Don't have a drink (alcoholic) beforehand, prob an old wives tale but i heard you bleed more when you have alcohol in your system, and don't go with an empty stomach :o)
I've got a few tattoos and have never put anything on them, but i do keep it dry for 48 hours.
Regarding the "flock" aren't we all sheep to some degree??? :o)

carrut - please give it a rest, before we all lose the will to live!!.............we've given our opinions, you disagree - get over it!!!
If you're son (or anyoneelse) want's a tatto he will get one, everyone who has a tattoo must be over 18 - therefore an adult, who can make decisions, drive a car, drink alcohol, vote, get credit ,get married, have kids etc etc etc - the majority of people don't just get tattoo's willy nilly and do think about them before hand.
I have a small one on the base of my spine (a sun) and am about to get another one on my hip (a star design) and thought about them long and hard before I did it - I was 25 when I got the first and am 30 now!

why buy expensive underwear - are you gonna walk around the street in your knickers???
the tattoo is for your own pleasure, no-one elses - I have mine in places that can be shown when I want to or covered when I don't or when it isn't appropriate!

(just realised how bad my typing/spelling was in the last post - sorry, just really tired & not concentrating properly!!)

it doesnt hurt like really bad pain its like the feel as if your being scratched, ive had three kids so to me having a tattoo is nothing, but if you ask my hubby he says it hurts.i bleed abit but nothing to worry about.ive had them done here and in cyprus but over there they ask you if you want numing cream, ring the tatto place up and ask if they have it,make make it abit better for you if your worring.
A mate of mine got his Regimental Badge tattooed onto his upper arm, and 3 months later got his transfer papers through for the Paras (Different Regt. Crest ENTIRELY!)
Now spending a lot of money removing it!
I got the England Rugby Rose on my upper arm, and it hurt a bit, mainly uncomfortable though.
I guess the answer is to go to a decent tattooist in the first place, not as Jack Dee stated -
"Alice Cooper jabbing at your arm with a knitting needle, and an alsation to lick the wound clean"
