The Shadow Leader of the House is Valerie Vaz. You can read what she said in Hansard here if you scroll down to her name, https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2019-09-25/debates/504160D3-B2D6-4820-89CE-355E6E87EAC2/BusinessOfTheHouse
FF, have a look at my link.
So what Valerie Vaz suggested was not to have a recess but to reschedule debate to non-contentious matters so that the Tory MPs could go to the conference without risk of anything major being debated in their absence. Is that really any different to what's happening instead though? The Tories on many issues are in the minority anyway now
No, Valerie Vaz made it clear Labour would support a recess if the Tories co-operated with them.
One doesn't, can't cooperate with those trying to thwart democracy.
Like the EU, non-starter demands only.
Thanks TCL.
I read the bit where she said:
"The Government need the three statutory instruments on Northern Ireland, scheduled previously in September. Surely the Leader of the House could bring forward the Second Reading of the Domestic Abuse Bill, which would be supported on both sides of the House. The Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill would similarly be supported widely by Members. Those important Bills are not contentious, and they would allow the House to sit while the Conservative party conference went ahead. "
I took the sentence "and they would allow the House to sit while the Conservative party conference went ahead" as meaning there wouldn't be a recess.
Have I misread it? Or is there another bit in your link that explains it?
FF, you are correct and I misinterpreted what I had heard during the statement she made.
" Tory Party Conference " What's That ?.
^ One day You may have Something useful To Contribute, gulliver
The Tories may as well Party for as long as they like , they are not needed in Parliament for votes because they aint got a majority ,only a massive minority , so the oppos dont need them PMSL.

Enjoy PYSL while you can gulliver but you won't need the incontinence pads after the next election as Boris will be the one laughing I feel.
