When did the British copper start emulating the French gendarmes? They looked on in the eighties when vandals burned lorry loads of lamb, now our police look on whilst a baying mob vandalises a public monument. Is this the gutless approach we can now expect from our police?

I'm sure I saw on the news tonight that they've identified 17 'suspects'. Good - let's get them arrested and put in front of a court. Surely this is a far better result than what would have happened if the police had waded into the crowd with truncheons and tear gas USA style to protect the statue.

Judging by the look of those lads and given the location I wouldn't bet a bent ha'penny they were'nt on furlough. Although the Royal Navy call it shore leave. Most of them look as though they have been training for the field gun race against the F.A.A. I wouldn't cross them and damage the war memorial.
