We've had these high temeperatures for just a few days. Back in 1976 it was in the mid-30's for months. I seem to remember 1959 being quite hot too; stand pipes and all that. Sensationalist and alarmist is what makes the makes the news. "We're all doomed!"

1976 was longer ( drought)but not as hot - I should know, I was taking finals then
1959 - yes - increds we were picking rasps in late April
and the farmer opposite the school ( now all built up) allowed us to eat our lunches in his hay field

and put simply as I am a simple man
it cant be a one only reading of 40'C yesterday
if it occurred twice before

The temperature in the summer of 1976 was in the mid-30's for at least 2 months. Mrs Clarion was heavily pregnant at this time. Not the best weather to be "carrying". As she always reminds me. Bless her. :o)
