I have an 8yr old ginger cat named 'Brutus' who mainly lives inside (except for an early morning & evening walk) this morning when we were having breakfast I noticed one of his eyes isn't opening properly and during the day one pupil has stayed enlarged and the other very small, I have bathed it several times during the day with warm salty water but it doesn't seem to be weeping and he certainly isn't distressed, just different sized pupils?
Different sized pupils is called 'anisocoria' and the causes are multiple, from injury to the eye to more serious diseases of the brain.
If your cat isn't in pain or distressed, then it doesn't sound very urgent, but best take him to the vet for a checkup just to be sure. If he isn' opening his eye fully, it could be because it is sore.
Hi, Im not sure what the pupil thing could be but when cleaning his eye please don't use salt water as this may sting, unless it's a saline solution out of a sachet. Just cooled boiled water will do. Too be honest I would take him to the vet as different sized pupils needs checking out.
