HUGE SPIDER

I keep finding GIANT SPIDERS (the size of a small hand) in my house particularly in the bathroom.  Where the hell do they come from, all windows are now closed, please dont tell me they live in the house with me all the time!!!

They can come in anywhere.  Under the skirting board - up the plughole, ventilation shafts.

We used to have those spiders in our last house.  I've always known them as Yorkshire House Spiders.  One landed on my head, when I was leaning into a cupboard and caused me to exibit behaviour more usually assossiated with someone having a fit!  Ours definitely lived in the floorboards between the corner of the lounge ceiling and the bathroom on the first floor, they can fit into very small holes for something so big.

How can get rid of them?  Someone suggested buying a cat but i dont fancy that so much!

They are house spiders, and despite being so huge it's amazing how they can get through tiny spaces. They're harmless, though.

A cat will eat them which, if anything, is even more disgusting than the spider itself.

Hey i used to get these in my flat so so huge!! what i find is if you kill a spider but leave the dead spider somewhere in your house they sense it and dont come in!!

My reply will probably cause an uproar of dont kill them blah blah or that my theroy is a load of rubbish- it might well be but it worked for me thats my story and im sticking to it!!!

my mum is absolutely petrified of spiders so I have recently bought her some pest repellers from Costco which plug into a normal electric socket (they look a bit like baby monitors) and they emit very small ultrasound blips which I am informed spiders do not like - well that's what I was told, but my mum has had them in place for about 6 weeks and hasn't seen a single spider, so they must work

That sounds a good idea Jules001, but I daren't have them in my house....my son has 2 arachnids as pets. One is called Rosie because of her colour, and the other is called Bo.

 

What are arachnids you ask?....Tarantulas or 'giant spiders' !!!!!!

Now it's geting cold outside they are looking for somewhere nice to spend the winter. They will find a crevice somewhere and be quite peaceful. They do no harm and you should welcome the little friends. In the spring they'll come out and start keeping the flies at bay.

I buy a spray with which contains cloves as spiders hate the smell so it drives them away.If I can advertise,I get it from Kleeneze and it works! If my hubby sees one in the bath he drips soap bubbles onto it and it shrivels up then he just washes it down the plughole.ooooh Im gone all wibbly now.

I knew someone who had a big spider crawl into his mouth while he was asleep, & lay eggs in his stomach. When they hatched the spiders ate him alive & he died a long drawn out & very painful death......there again it might have just been a dream I had.....either way I wouldn't worry too much (unless you sleep with your mouth open of course).

Its true about the high pitched noises, try it and yes i laughed my head off but came by it accidently. Purse lips and suck inwards, lips tight to make sqweaking noise and if the spider is moving it will stop and if you wait when it moves again, make noise again and it will stop. I did it a few times with this spider before falling asleep. The higher pitch you can make the more they hate it. I thought it maybe had something to do with the vibrations sent via airwaves from the noise you make, connecting with the hairs on the spider that makes it stop?? Anyway I will be trying Costco whatever that is and trying to get these plug in pest repellents, spiders and me dont get on hehe!

They eat flies and other insects therefore they help keep your house bug free. Also cats do not even look at them. I have two cats and they are not bothered at all.

The common brown house-spider is actually poisonous. Regardless of size however its 'fangs' are so small and relatively blunt, they are unable to penetrate human skin. Still worrying if you have a thing about them though. Sleep well.

i would rather have the flies than the spiders in my house, Now someone has said now it is getting cold they will be looking to come indoors i will be keeping my eyes peeled for the liitle beasts, i find a stamp from a shoe does the trick

If you can live with them, do!  Look at it this way:  As long as those spiders are around, you'll never have a problem with other bugs in your house (roaches, earwigs, silverfish and other nasties).

Apparantly the unusually bad weather is driving them inside more than normal. I have seen loads of big ones - eek!  I am going to a spider phobia course soon so I am hoping that will cure me!

You should always check down the pan before you sit on it in case there are any down there. You know spiders look for somewhere dark and warm to move into.......................
