Why is it that most who have appeared on this show this week have said they're too embarrassed to go to the doctor yet they're perfectly happy to show and tell the whole nation?

Also, why on earth would you 'put up' with something for 20+ years, i.e. last night there was a woman with a collapsed bowel and woman with bad incontinence?

I really am baffled by this.

Maybe shaving made the problem worse. I grow hairs, some wirey on my chin, but I pluck or wax as soon as they come. I'd never ever shave my face.
That woman had an hormonal problem though, which made her grow hair like a man's would. I can understand why she would shave, poor her.
I worked with a lady who had this problem years ago. People made fun of her but I just felt sorry for her. This was back in the early 90's and I don't think laser treatment was available then.
I have the same problem Max, but I think shaving as opposed to plucking or waxing, would make the hair coarser.

I can't say that I wouldn't shave if it was that bad though. Actually, I don't think I'd leave the house :(

That's an awful lot of hair to shave though, Velvetee?
real doctors are not as understanding as them. when i asked my doc about liposuction, for something that is causing me low self esteem and high self conciousness, i get told lump it or look up your own cosmetic surgeon. if only my gp would tell me 'this is the surgeon thats the best for that'.

That's a good point, Mandimoo. 20 years with a collapsed bowel though?? I'm still baffled by that one LOL
Well I've had Lipo Mandimoo and to be honest, I don't really think such a procedure should be available on the NHS, as it's really a just for cosmetic reasons.

You can improve your shape and size through healthy eating and exercise. Liposuction isn't a quick fix to weight loss and should only be used on areas of stubborn fat, that doesn't go through regular diet and exercise.
I agree with Velvetee - although, paying for it might not always be wise either. My friend recently went to Poland, and for 2000 had the lippo she wanted, plus a brilliant holiday to boot. She was, however, left in pain, and now that she's back home, it turns out that the procedure perforated something inside. She's had to have an operation to fix it! I think sensible dieting and exercise is the only way really, and anyway, we're not all meant to be void of any fat at all.
That's why it's best to pay the extra here in the UK, so in the event of a bowel perforation, it can be treated quickly.

Fortunately, I had no bad effects and very little discomfort. I was also happy with the results.
Brill! I'm pleased for you Velvetee. Can I ask if you expect the results to be permanent, or do you have to watch your diet from here on in? Although I gave that previous example, yes, i also know folk who've had successful fat removal - but they don't talk about it much, as they like to pretend they've got back into shape simply through their own hard work! LOL!
i agree with you both, and i would be prepared to pay to tidy my edges up, i would really like to know im going to a reputable surgeon though. my doc just told me i was on my own, but im sure they must know good practitioners and not so good.
mandimoo - your GP may see the risks involved in liposucton and not be prepared to recommend any surgeon. Any good GP would be against unnecessary medical procedures.

Far better to accept that nobody is perfect and no body is perfect and learn to live with our faults and lumpy bits.

I always think of Barbara Streisand - there is no one part of her face that is classically beautiful but it works on her.

But I agree, Dakota - you would imagine a person too embarassed to see the gp would be far too embarassed to show it on tv.
what i also found strange was that some of the people had seen a specialist and tried different treatments and then theses docs come along and in 5 minutes sugggest something and they are cured, i was thinking of the girl who skin kept breaking on her legs and the doc told her to put some cream on and wrap iher legs in cling film and it worked, so how come a dermotologist didnt think of that?
Gina - thats the girl I mentioned about earlier in the thread. As with every other profession, you will get doctors with different degrees of expertise/skills. I think the same applies to medical specialists.
but surely as the name implies, g.p= general practioner, specialist speaks for itself
The people on the programme get free treatment/operations/whatever they need in return for appearing on the show, this must be why they're more than happy to show their bits and pieces off!
