I'm trying to explain to my girlfriend that if a man cooks a three course meal for a woman - especially if the whole thing is based on a bet - it usually means that he's really interested in her. and even more so if they don't know each other very well and her boyfriend (me) is 1200km away, working in a different country. but she won't believe me.

 what do you guys say?.

PS: I already showed her the famous foot-massage discussion in Pulp Fiction - didn't work

umm well IMHO lets say he's likely to  have some kind of unspoken agenda and leave it at that
women are incredibly naieve (sometimes wilfully) about male motivations and intentions. I hate to say it but most often they likely feel neglected and flattered. Also, most women are stupid. lol
sexist prat El D.
I can understand you not being too happy, Thekraut. I'm not too sure what you mean about the whole thing being based on a bet.

Personally if I were in a serious relationship with a man, I wouldn't be going to another man's home and letting him cook dinner for me. From what you say they are not even long standing friends. The other man will probably look on it as a date. If you have told your girlfriend you aren't happy about the situation and she is still intending to go, then you have problems.
Get on that plane and get back.....if you want your girlfriend....or else get that cooking fiends mobile number and thank him for cooking for your girlfriend and tell him that you and your girlfriend had a good giggle about his motives....that should cool down his ego a bit..... Sorry girls but blokes usually are after one thing and that is not fabulous repartee and great company...its good if it comes with the package but wiseup.

I'm sure she is perfectly aware that this guy has some kind of agenda by cooking for her, and if she's told you about it she clearly has no intention of sucumbing to his charms.  Women are not naive when it comes to flirtation and such, we know exactly how to work a situation to our advantage and your girlfriend probably just wants a little ego boost because you're living so far away.  It's a dangerous game to play but attention from a stranger can be very appealing, even if you're in a long term relationship.

I don't think anyone would cook a 3 course meal for someone unless they had an agenda, and that whole 'for a bet' thing is the oldest of old chestnuts.
