Well not quite the way I expected this question to go, but since the MOBO thing has come up, here goes.
...it's just that this MOBO thing keeps coming up, and it does my head in. I get it every year at work at the time of the awards...from the same people.
Oh so once again sp1814, you don't mind this doing the the White' heads in, but upset the Blacks, that's a different thing entirely . Don't mention it, sweep it under the carpet, because it does your head in.
Well yes it does our head's in also, Music of Black Origin, National Black Police Association, Society of Black Lawers, Association of Black Engineers, Asian Games, I could go on and on, but here are a few more examples.

Why do the people who claim we are all the same underneath our skin, deem it necessary to always highlight their colour?

well as a mum of a mixed race daughter im white years ago i thought a lot of people would be racist and got offish when people starred in her pram but felt stupid when 9 times out of 10 it was to say how cute she was having said that it was 17 years ago she was born.... ive had black people say i should stick to my own colour and white people who say how could you go out with a black guy peoples opinion is a very individual thing and people should not be catogrised as a whole just because of skin colour its what makes you tick that makes you a racist not your colour
There is the RNIB for those who are blind but there is not one for the sighted. There is the RNID for the deaf and hard of hearing but not one for those with normal hearing. The point Im making is there are organisations and societies for those who are in the minority, not the majority. Thats why theres no organisation for white police men and woman nor one for white lawyers etc.

'Black origin' is a bucket term for dance/jazz/blues/soul/hip hop/garage/grime.
If you could think of a term which covers artists as diverse as Corinne Bailey Rae, Dionne Warwick, Dr Dre, Eminem, Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Luther Vandross, Diana Ross and the Beastie Boys, then please let us know what it could be.
Calling the Classical Music Awards or the Classic Brits Awards makes no sense, because it's a single subject award show.
Calling the Country Music Awards the MOWOs likewise doesn't make sense.
However, if an organisation decided to group together country, classical and folk, then that award show could be called the MOWOs.
But it would have a very disparate audience.
The MOBOs work because there's a cross pollonation between soul, r&b, jazz and hip hop. If you have music from Amy Winehouse, it's likely that you'll have stuff by (say) Dinah Washington or Mariah Carey...therefore having one award show for MOBO makes sense.
However, it's less likely that if you're into Mozart, Rachmaninov and Rimsky-Korsakov that you're going to want to watch an award show which also features Dolly Parton, LeAnne Rimes and Kenny Rogers.
The reason why the MOWOs don't exist is because there's no point in it existing.

We were discussing conotations in class when a coloured boy stormed out of the class because the teacher said 'The word white is seen as pure and holy and black reminds us of things dark and mysterious'.
Im pretty sure that teacher got a stern talking to. Probably along with the creators of, as previous ABers have said, the 'black board', 'ba ba black sheep' and such.
I was making a poster once for disabled people and didn't have a picture of a white person learning to read so put a black person and i was then called 'racist'.
*sigh*
