Unfortunately the people who so complacently say "the category will never go" are not the ones who were around the first time round and know fine well that the section can disappear, as it was proved to us back in '05.
Yes they can argue that it might pull in the revenue due to it being such a fast moving category, but if it proves too expensive to monitor, it can go just as quickly as CB mark1 did.
That being said- back to the orginal comment by compugran...no, I don't agree that CB shnould be removed, I'd be interested to know why they want it to be?

There is only one thing wrong with chatterbank, people go on there to try and dominate it and see their name in print, they think they have some claim to fame if they become 'popular' and people recognise their name, It is a category for the egos to perform. When it went last time I did not leave the site, i contributed to the other topics, though there were alot less then, only about 20 I think. I stayed with AB and patiently campaigned for CB to return, which it did when the original 2.0 version launched, this impending 2.0 is actually 3.0 but the ed seems totally unaware .
Antway, if the precious egos were to calm down the site would be far more enjoyable, i alwats fight my corner and i am unrelenting in my responses until i feel i have vindicated my stance in a debate / argument. I am probably one of the most honest genuine people on here and do not hide behind names to be abusive and aggressive.

Whether or not ChatterBank as a category stayed or not ...
... Chatting as a concept would continue.
We ChatterBankers would just move into Society and Culture.
... or "Seasonal" ... because I'm sure nobody else uses Seasonal for any purpose whatsoever.
I'd just sit and loiter in "Sport" until we found a new home.

I originally joined AB for the Quizzes and Puzzles section but now look at many of the other sections.
I think when you first post in CB it is a bit strange and cliqueish but I now am fully involved in many lively debates.
As has been said before - if you don't like any of the categories just don't go there.
I have posted in Crosswords, Technology, Pets, Genealogy,Jokes, CB, and a few others, and find the responses equally rewarding, so please don't have a go at CBers.

I'm sorry, but this is something that really gets my hackles rising.
I do love these people who are so far up themselves that they can't see how arrogant it is to appoint themselves judge, jury and guardian over everyone else. What gives any one individual the right to decide what is best for everyone else?
The bare-faced arrogance of thinking it's ok to spend time reading enough of CB to pass judgement, but nobody else should be allowed to read or post on there astounds me. I mean come on for God's sake, thinking 'I don't like that so it should be banished from existence' is so unbelievably, pompously, patronisingly self-righteous it makes my blood boil.
I'm all for keeping CB for those who want it....and to those who don't....JUST DON'T GO THERE! Nobody has you in a headlock forcing you to click on Chatterbank.
It's quite simple really when you apply common sense and stop being so self-absorbed. It's just like anything else in life; if you don't like it, avoid it. I don't like fish, so I don't buy it. I don't campaign for it never to be sold to anyone else! Not the best analogy I know, but you know what I'm getting at. We are all entitled to an opinion of course. But no-one is entitled to force everyone else to kow tow to that opinion.
I'd also like to say that I've been a member of AB for long enough to know that there are people out there who frequently completely miss the main point of a post. So, just to clarify, this is NOT a post condoning the more stupid goings on over on CB, It is to stand up against individuals who's egos overtake their intellect and therefore think they have the right to decide what's best for the rest of us.
Thought police. I abhor them. Rant over.
