Her body was found in her home shortly after she took part in a water-drinking contest that was sponsored by a local radio show.
It is estimated that the woman who died drank approximately 2 gallons of water during the contest.

It should also help to prevent your body from confusing the signals between thirst and hunger. That's more about staying hydrated all the time, though.

LoftyLottie, I've never been able to eat a meal without a drink, either! I'm known as The Fish 'round our dinner table. :)

Whiskey beat me to it :) I've heard that often your body mixes up the signals of hunger and thirst so often if you feel hungry, you are actually thirsty so combatting the thirst will suffice to take the feeling away.
A definite degree of common sense needs to employs with this though!
As Whiskey said, it's about keeping hydrated.
Also if you have water retention, drinking more water can help though I don't imagine it makes any difference when you actually drink it. At least 3 times a day can't be a bad thing though.

I've drunk chilled water with all meals since I went on a diet some years back. Started drinking then 'cos apart from the "it fills you up", I was also told a) some foods absorb water & physically swell therefore taking up more room in your stomach, b) if the water's cold, the body has to work that (little !) bit harder to get it to body temperature which pushes up the metabolic rate. Old wives tales ? Don't care, I was always a bit of a podge until I started with the water, & my weight's been pretty stable ever since - must be over 10 yrs now :o)
