Recently i have been having some shooting pains just below the back of my knee, it feels as if a small section fibre of my muscle is having cramp, its not all the time and not prolonged (so obviously not cramp) but seems to happen every now and then. ive been playing in a rather competitve 5 a side football side over the past few months playing both out field and in goal. whilst in goal i have a number of times hit my knee quite painfully on the floor, not to the extent that it gets swollen but i was wondering whether the shooting pains were a side effect of mildly damaging my knee on the floor, im certain that its a muscle, or tendon related problem but unsure of the seriousness of the situation, any help would be appreciated

well, when I've had cramp it's lasted anything from a minute to a week, so I wouldn't necessarily rule it out. Sorry, can't help any further than that, though.
I would go and see your doctor. All this football lark has probably caused trouble with the tendons . In the meantime get some Traxam gel and rub that in.Or wear a padded knee support when footballing. Don't leave it..see the doctor and he may advise an X-ray . Banging your kneecap on the floor is not a good idea ! In twenty years time when you have arthritis in your knees you will wonder why.Get it looked at. Good luck.
