Faos Etc

I've lost track of where this discussion has got to but is there any kind of plan to have a category for FAOs. It will almost certainly be abused but it is becoming a little tedious.

There are frequently threads directed to 'the experts' which don't take account of the expertise of others and are therefore self limiting. Particularly when there is a poster with more recent and pertinent experience.

And then there are the FAOs along the lines of 'Thanks Chumbawamba I've fixed it'

Not to mention the 'FAO Eric, are you about?'

Yes, you can avoid them but sometimes it is difficult to especially when they are in a specialist category rather than Chatterbank!

Please either a tightening/reminder of the rules or a 'Calling your Name' category.

That's just it though - since Ed told us not to do FAOs, most people who do it are just putting the name of the person they want to attract - just as you did there, sqad. It's only an FAO in disguise!

I thought he said to avoid FAO threads that were private. Like doing an FAO to inform someone they have an email and then go on to discuss the email which would mean nothing to every other user on the site.

Because sqad, some of them, admittedly it is just some of them seem to be filled with "in" jokes by a few individuals that leave the vast majority of users scratching their heads wondering what it's about.

And yes, you can say its only a forum, its just words, why are folks getting het up about it, but the fact is, as is clearly proved folks are. So it makes sense to stop them being done at all.

I think that's been commented upon several times already, sqad - posts calling out for individual ABers to respond aren't approved of in some quarters. That's one point of this discussion, and the other seems to be the derailment of threads with bursts of private conversation which are not relevant to the OP. I think that's it - I've been to bed since this thread started....
