On the other hand you can't tar all Romanians with the same brush. OK some may go pinching wire from the telephone exchange to weigh in for scrap but my Romanian neighbour certainly does not, he works too many hours looking after the elderly at a nursing home. And for those who pipe up saying for every immigrant that is another job being taken away from one of our natives I would like to point out that these blow-ins take many of the jobs our own aren't prepared to take. I used to lead the nightshift in Dublin and not one Irish national applied for the vacancies. There was me, as English as a tea towel with cats on it, leading a team of Lithuanians and Latvians. Hardest workers I've ever had grafting for me.
"Oh dear! To be concerned about immigration automatically means one is branded as a racist."
My point is that, precisely by his ridiculous assertion that it's OK to have Germans living next door to you but not Romanians, Farage exposes himself as a racist who actually demeans the argument of those who might have sensible reasons to worry about immigration.

I don't believe so. He was just using official figures.
Between 2008 and 2012, there were over 27,000 arrests of Romanians in this country. 9,540 resulted in convictions. The re-offending rate for all groups in UK is 26.8%.
I'd hazard a guess that Germans provide a significantly miniscule amount in comparable figures!

I'm afraid he was either betraying his own prejudice or playing on those of others.
A responsible politician does not extrapolate from crime figures, however misleading, that one would rather have Germans living next door to one rather than Romanians, especially without explaining himself, as he did not do.
He's simply grandstanding for the sake of the lowest common denominator, as you could tell from the Radio interview, where it was plain he was struggling to justify himself

Well that is exactly what he did do and he obviously didn't need to explain himself because the subsequent furore meant that his opponents knew exactly what he was alluding to!
Take a look at the figures. To me it suggests criminality is far for prevalent in immigrant Romanians than immigrant Germans.
