Cherry Tree Pruning

I bought a cherry tree from aldi a couple of weeks ago and want to pop it in the garden next week now it's a bit warmer
There are a couple of potential branches fairly low on it that I want to remove so if I prune them off shall I seal the trunk (where I have removed them) with something?

I would plant it out asap and resist the temptation of pruning off those potential branches until later in the year, once the tree is settled in and gotten over the transplanting shock.

At this time of the year, the sap will be rising or soon will be, so any cuts now are likely to bleed heavily and will leave it vulnerable to infection or at least, risking wastage of valuable energy.

Prune off the unwanted branches in Oct/ Nov when the tree is at the dormant stage and allow the air to dry off any fresh cuts, covering can actually encourage fungal growth and disease.

One last thing - will it be ok to plant out now
We have only had one warm day - won't the ground still be too cold
I also have a plum tree I intend to plant out too

Sure, Ric.
As long as the soil isn't frozen, it should be fine.

Don't forget to keep it well watered for the first year or so!

Pruning cherry trees is a summer job - think. RHS says prune in summer to reduce silver leaf disease what ever that is.
I would plant it and leave the pruning for now.
