Quiet Wedding

When reading the marriage notices in the paper, why do people nearly always say,'the marriage took place quietly '?.

In days gone by it often meant 'shotgun' wedding, the bride wearing a gown rather larger than her normal size,if you know what I mean. These days it could mean small family 'do' where the groom does not land in a helicopter, bride does not arrive in a 6ft wide dress in a pink coach with six white ponies and 25 bridesmaids.

I have been to dozens of weddings in my 62 years and I have always preferred the smaller, quieter ones. They just seem to be more intimate and friendly. In a time when most young couples are struggling to buy their first house, I would have thought that spending less on a wedding and putting more into the first home is a much better idea.
