escort idling

i recently changed my idle speed control valve on my ford escort gti 1997 R reg due to erratic idling but still have the same problem any ideas how to cure this????

ive only just changed my monitor over and upgraded to a flatscreen one and im using my existing leads as its the same fitting but just keeps going black then then back to normal then black and so on...
