Radiator Plumbing

Is there some way of plumbing in a new radiator that is approximately 4" narrower than the old one, without moving the original pipework? I was thinking along the lines of extended valves or tails....

no hot water - again!

I thought I'd found the 'cure' to this - but it appears not. Potterton gravity hot water system - 2 port motorised valve (with new motor) - tank stat fine. System will 'spark up' - but intermittently....
