cleaning cookers

Please can anybody recommend a good cleaning subtance for ovens, hobs etc.? Those I've tried (the apply, leave for 20 minutes then wipe off type) just don't work.

Light-hearted definitions

Chambers Dictionary claims to include occasional light-hearted defintions. The only two I've found are for '?clair' and 'tracksuit' which both made me laugh, Anyone know of any more?
