removing transfers from bathroom tile

Can anyone give me some advice on removing old transfers from bathroom tiles? I cannot afford to re-tile and if I can remove the transfers that are there I can try and tidy up the plain white tiles....

painting a ceiling

I have painted my hall ceiling recently,( 3 coats) but it still looks really patchy. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why and is there any way of rectifying? Many Thanks.
