Ever wondered what AB Ed did in her spare time? Me too... until I was wandering in the bazaars of Damascus the other day and saw <A target='_blank' href=&quot;http://img328.imageshack.us/my.php?image=abed7yt.jpg& ;quot;>this</A>. Crafty, eh?

sheep racing, well the things they get up to in the west country... I suppose all the greyhounds are already in use chasing the Beast of Bodmin or something and the horses are pulling ploughs... Still grumbling about my foot and wondering if this might be the time to Go Private - I love the NHS but when you're in pain, being told to take an aspirin and come back in five days is just ridiculous. Ahem, better stop ranting before this thread is removed to News.

jno - I couldn't blame you if you did go private. I came very close to doing just that 4 yrs ago when I was told there were 20 weeks to wait for an echocardiogram. Turned out to be 8 weeks but it felt like forever.
Question Author
eight weeks is still an uncomfortably long time Robinia, esecially when it comes to your health. Actually, when I come to think about it, I don't know anything about going private. I've got private treatment available via my employers, but that doesn't include initial consultations, which is what I actually want now as my foot continues throbbing and the drugs don't work <reaches for whisky bottle>... And I suppose what my employers would like, since I can't get back to work until I can walk. I must give this some more thought. What do you do, just ring up someone on Harley St and have your chequebook ready?
Poor Jno ..foot pain is awful when you have to hobble around .I have a lot of pain in my feet with MR.A.Thritis in my heels and toes.
We have private medical care ..it's an awful lot of money each month but we were jolly glad of it when Mr.S had to have a prostate op shortly before we moved house..I have also had bone scans done and seen an orthopaedic chap about my hip..
This used to be a perk of the job for Mr.S but we have kept it up since we retired. Years ago I had a hysterectomy on them and it was like a fortnights holiday ! At the time it was an 18 month wait on the NHS and I couldn't walk about losing my lifes blood for that long.
I know some would say it's queue jumping and the NHS are marvellous re GP's ,emergencies etc...but when you are in dire pain and distress you want things sorted .
Go back to your GP Jno ...tell him you have private medical care through your employer. He will arrange for you to see a consultant . .Also ring the insurer.. Bupa or whoever and find out exactly what they will pay for. They must fork out for a consultation surely or is it a policy whereby you have to be hospitalised first. Eg depending on what you are in for they move you to a private hospital.
Question Author
something like that shaney, thanks for the advice; I shall go back and check the exact wording. I think it's basically seeing consultants or going to hospital that's covered. As it's weekend now it's mostly academic, but I've got to start thinking of these things longer-term, I guess. grump grump!
Get on the case asap. What the GP usually does is send a letter to the consultant whose secretary will then get in touch with you to make an appointment. Sometimes they will give you the number and you can ring them yourself and pick up the letter from the GP and take it with you .I don't know what part of this fair land you are in.. but..if you are anywhere in the south London,Surrey area, St Anthonys at North Cheam is one of the best private hospitals or Parkside in Wimbledon.

Well I've been very good and worked nearly all day! Just popped in to say goodnight.

jno, I hope you get sorted out quickly. You are being accused of being the Ed. again over in suggestions!

Nice to see you Dolly.

Take care everybody and have a good weekend.

Still no Woofie :o(

Well I am off folks ..have had a long day today doing household engineering and sorting out junk !
I only popped in for a minute and I am still here !
Nice to see you Dolly..I didn't notice you up there earlier ..... the weight is going nicely thank you.
At my appointment this morning I had lost 4 more pounds so that's a total now of 23 pounds.I feel more like my old self. I do have an occasional lapse though and stuff a cake or something !
Shaney is looking slimmer too as we have been going on long walks !

Have a nice weekend everyone...take care ,rest that foot Jno and back to your GP asap!
Slack Alice xx
Back again for a moment or two .I went private for my colonoscopy etc. couldn't wait and anyway am not too happy with Public Hospitals they've been getting a lot of bad publicity with one thing or another ,M R S A AND GOLDEN STAPH . Is it perhaps phlebitis in your foot jno ? Very painful.Hope it's soon better . Hi Robinia and everyone ,woofy seems to have disappeared ,has she been seen elsewhere on here ? Time to bring the washing in ,it's all go ! Bye for now xx

Morning all Hope you get sorted Jno - very worrying for you. It's lovely over here even if it is cold. Keeps clouding a little bit but then the sun breaks through again.

Had goog time last night at the Vampire Rockers night. It was set in the year 2020 and Count Rockula was looking for a wife, wont go into it anymore except to say it was an excuse to play as many Rock classics in 2 hours as possible finishing up with Meat Loaf's Bat out of Hell. The musicians were brilliant and played and sang live. Of course me and my friend were on our feet. There were some spare seats an the back of the balcony so we moved at half time and stood up most of the night 'giving it large' as they say round here.

Had my blackcurrant cream from Birds this a.m. Robinia. Felt like shouting "Robinia are you in here" !!

Robinia where are you!!!

I think last night got to me!!!

Question Author
wow, the things that go on in Britain - vampires at one end, sheep racing at the other. Fortunately all that happens in my salubrious suburb is the vicar's tea party and the occasional axe murder. My foot still swollen (no jumping to my feet for me Jude!) but not currently hurting so I shall just sit in the sun and do sudokus and not bother going to work until I am fit again.
Why is it Jno ,that I can work out the most fiendish cryptic crosswords but a simple Sudoku sends me into a panic .
My son works them out for me quick as a flash after I have practically rubbed a hole in paper..or thrown them across the room in huff.

Jno You've got me curious now, what part of this big wide world do you live in?

I love Sudokus and Cryptics, not brilliant at either but it keeps my brain active! :o)

Afternoon all - totters in..... feeling wobbly again....think I've had a bit of a relapse so I'll pass on the cakes thanks Jude. I got really cold when I went shopping on thurs & yesterday afternoon it all hit me again. It's a funny bug, my sisters friend can't shake it either....

sorry you're still struggling jno....the nhs have been very good to me too but I've seen it's slow decline over the past 20 years. There's far too much admin, lack of common sense & the 'I'm not doing that, it's not on my work sheet' attitude now.

It's soooo cold here. I've had a cute coal tit outside the window shredding some hessian to make a nest. Poor little thing must have given up waiting for spring weather.

I can't do sudoku either shaney, but I do like crosswords, although I'm not the whizz that you are. Some of the threads on Q&P are like a foreign language.
