If my vet told me he fasts himself so I should give it a whirl with my animals, I'd find another vet.

Talbot, Muslims fast for a month once a year and they only fast during daylight hours so they eat every evening. You body does not enter a true fasting state until you've used up all your glycogen stores and that takes 48 hours for women and 72 hours for men.

To reverse and cure chronic illness a continued fast for a minimum of 20 days is required.
20 days!!?! Now I am worried. I hope you are not subjecting your dog to that.
NOM I'm turning blue baiting my breath and waiting for an answer -is your dog on any other medication for its condition ?
NoM have you see my post?

This would happen to be the only vet in a succession of vets who even thought to test my dog for Leishmania, the vet who liaised with experts at Bristol University on the best systemic medication for his condition, the vet who obtained a veterinary import licence to bring his medications into the country and sold it to me so I could email it over to my friend in Spain and get it brought back? Thanks, I'll stick with the one I've got :)
Oh hold the front page - little Alfie has had Chemotherapy for his problems ! LOL! Obviously this toxic treatment did not cure him it was the starvation that did that lol!
Retro...stop being so...childish. You're like a playground bully sometimes.

Forgive me Ed...
Retrochic - I like reading your posts as I know they will always be interesting but please don`t be so nasty towards someone who is worried about their pet. It`s not necessary.
Pata -explain yourself. NOM says her dog was cured by fasting yet in fact the dog has undergone Chemo for his condition -its not me being childish its the OP being untruthful. I find it extremely childsih to suggest all I have to do is starve myself and my chronic debilitating condition will be cured, when the person saying this has had her dog treated with chemo.
I am not being nasty the OP is not being truthful. I have said earlier I hope the treatment she gives her dog works.
You might think that you are not being nasty but sometimes a little tact and diplomacy can go a long way
//Also I haven't starved my dog, I've fasted him. I've done this in order to see whether I can give him relief from his chronic illness without subjecting him to further gruelling chemotherapy and all the associated side effects. //

What NoM said at 20:54. So how is she not being truthful?
NOM did not say her dog was cured...she said there was a reduction in some symptoms...after fasting him briefly for ONE day. She also stated that she had her vets blessing...it was worth a try. No one is talking about starvation. It is you who is exaggerating. Current research suggests that intermittent fasting can reduce inflammation and reduce oxidative stress. So...it *may* help in arthritis cases.
retro, giving what others are going through tonight, i.e. minty, back off.

NoM cherishes her dog beyond all of us; all her mentions of Alfie over the years prove that beyond doubt. Let her decide the way forward from 'listening' to our comments, not the criticisms.....

Thanks to everyone for the informative links.

Alfie has by no means achieved a cure but is responding positively since his systemic medication has been stopped and he's being fasted / fed on raw human-grade food. He's certainly happier in himself too.

I really don't know why you or your alter ego are bothering to insult me, retro, it really is water off a ducks back...
DT...I'm very sorry for Minty but you can't use that to stop people posting in other threads.
