Shingles Vaccine

I’m asking for a friend....she has been told under the nhs she cannot have a shingles vaccination until she is 80 which is a couple of years away. She has asked at her health centre if she can pay for one and apparently the answer is no. She has contacted private hospital and they do not offer this. Does anyone know where she can be vaccinated?

BusyBee tell her to hurry up as it says on the NHS website she can get it done at 79 (but not 80).

Anyone who was previously eligible for shingles vaccination but missed out can have the vaccine. This means:
anyone in their 70s who was born after September 1 1942
anyone aged 79
The shingles vaccination programme is being staggered this way because it would be impractical to vaccinate everyone in their 70s in a single year. \\

So just to clarify sqad any age over 70? As she missed at 70 she can have it at anytime?

then she is not eligible. People born after that date in their 70s are, an people who are 78 ae, neither of which apply to your friend

At 19.21 BB you wrote she said she will be nearly 80 so I took that to mean she was 79.
It looks as if the rules are due to change again in July this year so it might be worth waiting a couple of months to see if she then becomes eligible rather than spending money having it done privately.

I received a letter from my medical practice when I turned 70 inviting me for a shingles vaccination. Maybe different rules for different parts of the country?

My surgery wrote and offered it as I turned 70, my OH had to ask - different doctor's surgeries. We both had it done with no ill effects.

My one Grandad has had this issue being born June 1942, he didn't fall into the catchment of dates for the GP to do it so I think he got it done at the Pharmacy. I can check for you later x

o, not differet rules, BB's frien is not 70. The vaccination programe was only introduced 5 years ago, so when she was 70 she woulnt have been invited, because the program did not exist Therefore she has not (yet) been eligible and that is why she's not eligible for the catch up
