smoking

For those that have successfully quit in the past...
What do you do when it's not so much as wanting one, a craving, but more, it's what you're used to doing?
What I mean is, ive just had a brew and something to eat and it's this time i normally light a fag. I don't particularly want one for the taste, it's just because it's what i normally do, it's what I want to do- does that make sense?
Incidently, i've not had a smoke since 9 last night.

first of all, well done b00!, giving up smoking is a difficult thing and although I quit 14 years ago I used to really enjoy smoking, I gave up when I became pregnant. I agree though in todays climate its seen as a very anti social thing.
maybe have a mint after your meal as a "finisher", when my mom quit she used to buy a bag of mint imperials and have one after her meal in place of a fag. good luck and stick to it, in the long run its the right thing to do.

Boo, as an anti smoking, never smoked person who has a bit of a go at smokers I just want to say, very well done, you have started, don't give up giving up, stick with it. I have known several mates who have cracked it so I know how tough it must be. Once you've given up for a preiod of time there is a tendency to think you've cracked it and just have one "socially" etc DON'T! It's trap, I knew a guy who gave up for 2 years, had one cigar and was then smoking Hamlets like they were cigarettes! You can never ever have another smoke of any kind, but you can sniff some passive smoke, that'll help. I really hope you stick with this and well done to you and others above who have cracked the weed!
Boo, I put an elastic band around my wrist and every time I got the urge for a fag I snapped it hard on my wrist. Its a distraction technique and it does work. If you can resist the urge for two minutes you will forget about it completely. Try not to substitute the urge to smoke with something else.....just walk away from it! What would you have done after the fag? Just do it two minutes earlier now!
