Onwards and Downwards Continues in August
Welcome to August's Onwards and Downwards. Welcome to any and all new members keep up the good work.
Summer holidays are here again and those of you with children or grandchildren at home it can be tricky to keep the snacking down. How do you plan to keep the little ones occupied and out of the pantry?
Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

I've lost 2lb this week. Makes up for not losing any the week before. One of my friends at work bought a bag of double choc chip cookies from Sainsbury's yesterday and was offering them around. I said thank you but no thank you. Normally I can't resist a giant warm cookie but I did and I feel quite proud of that :o)
I've now lost 8lbs in 5/6 weeks.

Good for you x.
Personally I'm feeling it's difficult to put up with this any more. One gets a period of minor success then it messes about for ages. Apparently since yesterday I've gone up 1⅜lbs (!) which followed a previous 24hr drop of 1⅝lbs. One could ignore blips but the week resulted in a gain of 1⅛ overall. I suppose others get the same but I seem to keep more or less on the 'straight and narrow', with the occassional unexpected over-target day, yet see little to show for it.
Congratulations to all who manage better than I.

Hi OG I know how you feel. For myself when I find that I'm in that frame of mind then I say that I'm not focused properly. My main aim for loosing weight is that I don't want my health to suffer. I want to loose this puffing and the back aches. I know it gets better because I've done it before. I'm not aiming to be a wizzened up, skinny oap, but to just get to the BMI that is acceptable for my body. My reward will be the feel good aura at that point. Hope this helps....
I'm 1lb down this week - reasonably happy with that since I've not been very mobile these last couple of weeks after I fell over and jarred my back. Doh!
Now we (UK folk) just have the Bank Holiday to contend with so Good Luck everyone and have a lovely weekend. I'll do my best to stock up on fruit, salad and a packet of ryvita! I have plenty of veg in the garden, courgettes, green beans, new potaotes, which makes it slightly easier to cook from scratch.
I've just chopped up a pineapple and put it in a container in the fridge. I'll take a portion to work to have midmorning or as part of my lunch and nibble on the rest over the next few days.
I have best intentions and just have to resist the temptations of bread, cheese and cappucinos which lie ahead! Still a long way to go for me so onward and downward.

I have got halos all around me this morning. I could feel I had lost and this is by getting back on track and doing what I did last year. I too had to do it healthwise as I was beginning to feel a bit out of breath. I have been playing around too much being good one or two days then breaking it by being silly. And with that I have lost 5 lbs which has really given me the will to carry on with that good start again. It proves it can be done with just having the will power.I have not felt hungry as I have stuck to fish chicken and lots of veg .for dinners.and salad at lunchtimes. And of course the unsweetened grapefruit juice helps me .I had stopped taking that . Also last week I made sure I did a shop to last most of the week and I have been writing everything down. I hope this story helps anyone that is struggling.
Well done Maidup that is in the right direction.

Good for you maidup. I do my own lo fat capuccino with reg. coffee and mini milk (very low fat) but can still make it foam with one of those wand foamers and I sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top...okay not the same but better than nothing. My cup of "capu" for 11'sies with a some raisins keeps me going until lunch time.
Well done Maidup and xStitcher and brilliant to Wendilla. I thought I did done so well losing 2lbs until I read about you losing 5lbs! Don't worry OG, we all go through bad patchs and it gets us down, you will soon get going again. I don't stick to any particular diet but just try to cut down what I eat and cut out most of the snacks. My secret weapon this week has bee my discovery of wholegrain rice cakes. Only 33 calories in one. They are fairly large and after one I really feel like I have had a good snack. Salt and vinegar are my favourite though there are lots of other flavours.
Happy Birthday next Monday Jan and enjoy your curry you have done so well that a treat is in order.
2 Ibs is good spotit but I agree that Wendilla has made us all green with envy. Lucky you with those salt and vinegar rice cakes....they sound right up my alley but I haven't seen any here. I shall check out Iceland for them when I go to Spain, they have a whole part of the store with other than frozen things.

Well done to everyone for the great losses this week. I'm with OG this week. It gets me down if I let it. Up 1 1/2lb this week, but if I'm honest, I knew before getting on the scales that would be the case. This is my pattern, I start with a few good weeks then it tails off and I get fed up and end up letting myself down, leading to the biscuit tin etc. However I've had a good talk to myself and today is another day and the start of a new dieting week. Here's hoping things will improve next week.
Another endorsement for rice cakes from me too. They are available in all the supermarkets and are not very expensive. I have a couple with low fat cream cheese and a tomato and appple for lunch, or when I have a really, really bad sweet tooth craving in the evening I have one with the thinnest amount of spread and half a teaspoon of jam - it satisfies it no end. Well done everyone and welcome back to the downward movement Wendilla.
