Have any of you lovely gardeners hard pruned, into old thick wood, any of the following shrubs and had them live to see another year?!!  I read all the books but there's so much conflicting advice when it comes to renovation pruning.

Olearia haastii (Daisy bush)

Lonicera fragrantissima (winter honeysuckle - think this one will be ok)

Cotinus (smoke Bush).

Very nice Lofty .
I've just had a couple of hours outside with my gardener and the dreaded power tool :)
I'm knackered and have been relegated to broom pusher, tea maker and general snipper offer of sticky outy bits .
As long as you don't snip off the sticky outy bits of your gardener ;o)
what a lovely garden, Lottie, very English Country Garden.

Very noisy thunderstorm here at the moment. We are haggling over a Tesco bag full of jewellery. We say it's not ours, our housesitters say it's not theirs... okay, they've changed their mind and remembered it is theirs after all, but the Uganda guidebook they left is definitely ours. They've also remembered that they did roll up the rug and leave it in the spare room, something that had been puzzling us, since they denied doing that too.

Yes, I drive, neti, the sight of me and my invalid carriage is well known around here

Oh lottie, lovely garden., I like gardens when they look like that, but can't afford the water for it!

Am so proud of myself, I have put music onto my android phone. Hija was always going to show me how, so I just googled it and lo and behold, I have done it!!!

Have to say it feels a tad chilly here at the moment, although phone says it is 19º !!

lol jno, I'll ask the Ed to play the first line of that everytime you post on AB :o)

Lovely pics lottie...
...phew, what a scorcher...all sweaty life is out there. Well a fair amount of it was in the diy/garden stores. Lots of white flesh on show and people saying we can't do that, it's too hot.... mmm, the mind boggles. Sis came in her hubby's car which is probably now minus any suspension thanks to us buying several large bags of bark chippings each.
We sat in the garden having a'noon tea & a little group of golfinches came to the feeder! I'm so pleased I've only ever seen an odd one over all the yrs I've been here. There was a storm rumbling around for ages earlier & it didn't come to anything but at least the headache I'd come home with has cleared.

*err, goldfinches, not golf-inches, haha
couldn't open the pics. ITs been very hot here today so we have lounged. Made from scratch pizza and home made cherry cake for tea.
Am stuffed from eating out at the famous Cafe sidney, this diet has to change and soon, Nachos with guacamole and hot/sour dips, breadcrumbed mushrooms with blue cheese sauce and a hot spicy dip, they huge chicken wings with another sauce (I've brought some of them home) Mr N had a huge hamburger, chips and salad. Hija was shattered after two nights out in Barca so she went home while we waited for the bill, then blow me, all the leccy went off inthe village, so we waited and waited and then Mr N went and asked if they could add it up mentally cos the register wasn't working, so we managed to stagger home in the half dark, cos half the places and roads and leccy and half didn't. Luckily it came on at home!

Jno I absolutely adore the Beach Boys, and have just put them onto my Android .phone.

Am saying g'nite all cos once I've rolled into bed there is no way I'm gonna roll out again !
