Looking a new kitchen as some of you know, had the B&Q man round today & he asked me what sink I wanted, a normal or a one & a half bowl sink.
I've only ever had a normal single bowl sink so asked him what the half bowl sink was for. I thought it may be for rinsing maybe but he said it was to keep your cloths in!
I dont know if I am right about the rinsing but i'm sure its not for putting your cloths in, is it?
Thanks for your replies, it seems they have many uses! LOL! But looks like no one really knows what they are really for (uncluding B&Q man who really SHOULD know)
As miss megs post , im sure they were for a waste disposal unit underneath , i had one and a half bowl and never used the half bowl bit as i didnt have a waste disposal kit fitted , just something else to clean imo
If it means that the biggest sink bowl is going to be smaller, I would suggest that you not do it unless you have a utility room with a full size sink in it.
As I don't have a plastic bowl in my sink, when I wash up I use the whole sink, same if I'm washing a hand-wash item. You can bet your sweet life that the minute I fill up the sink, somebody will want to tip something down it - Hey Presto - thank goodness for the half one.
I have dishcloth and when it's past its best I either relegate it to the rag tray or chuck it away and use a new one. I buy the packs of 3 or 5 and have decided that life's too short to wash them.
As far as the sink is concerned, mine's a normal single bowl and I wouldn't have much use for an extra little bit I don't think.
I boil up the dishcloths with T towels as well as putting them in the dishwasher every night. When they get tatty, like you Maidup, they go to the rag pile and then into the rubbish. I always have a couple of packs in the kitchen drawer. I can't stand J cloths, etc. or spongy things on a stick. Gotta be good old fashioned dishcloths.
My half sink has a plastic colander type bowl which fits in it perfectly, I use it for draining cutlery also for draining salad, I really wouldn't be without it now ....
I use my half bowl sink for lots of things - washing up a couple of plates, cups, cutlery etc - scraping veg - draining cutlery - defrosting meat etc. etc. Wouldn't be without it now.
