I retired twenty years ago, and definitely don’t WANT a job, but cat-stroking just struck me as something I really would enjoy - in fact I’d do it for nothing.
A ‘real’ job? Ah, that’s a question. Barring nurses, doctors, and food growers, how many of us do ‘real’ jobs?
Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists do real jobs, as do Speech and Language Therapists and many other of the other paramedical professions. Got to say I get a bit cheesed when people go on about the wonders of doctors and nurses and totally ignore the other essential professions.....also the police and fire services.....shall I go on?
There are I suppose gradations of necessary jobs, starting at the top with the three I listed and going all the way down to estate agents and PR people.
So difficult to choose really. Probably a vetinary surgeon who specialised in an important field and could travel the globe. This was not an option as my choices were limited by my upbringing and education.
