Should I Start Looking For A New Job?

Basically my hours have been cut in selco to 24 hours for 4 weeks as I am not grasping the products with it becoming summer it is getting busy and they can't have another cashier with me so if I don't grasp within 4 weeks won't be able to have me as a cashier. I am very upset as I enjoy it.

If you don't know there's nothing wrong with asking, but take an interest in the products and get to understand them - then you won't need to ask.  You're not daft, abbey.  Can you imagine you being in the trust-worthy position of helping the next new girl who starts work there?  It could happen.  You can do it if you try.  Don't give up on this job.   Take pride in your work and make a career of it.  You don't want to be cleaning for the rest of your life.

Everyone's the same, abbey.  It's not just you.  Just show your boss you're keen to learn.

Carry a small notepad and pen and when you have to ask about something, write it down. Your boss will see that you are trying to get to grips with the products and it will help you remember details for future days.

I am a Selco trade customer, had a delivery yesterday in fact.

But one thing I am not sure about is why you need to know the products if you are on a till.  The bar code has to be entered otherwise the stock system fails (doesnt get reordered) and whenever I have been in there the person on the till doesnt seem to know very much.  People on the floor do but then you would expect that.

Are you on the till or customer service?

If you must know something about products may I suggest you go to the website and look at the menu.  So building materials Timber & joinery etc.  Then memorise those first.

When comfortable with that click on a menu item, say Painting & Decorating and learn the categroies under that, e.g. Paint Decorators tools Woodcare etc.

After that drill to the next level so look at the Paint and see the actual products.  Also open the product to see choices as they sometimes do that.

One thing to be aware with Selco is that not all products are available in all branches.  Sand for instance, only one of the sand prodcuts will be in your area.  Shoosing the area from the drop down will show if you can have it, although you may need an account for that??

Good luck, it will come but when at work do WORK, nothing else.

I'm still not sure what the issue is in terms of using the till given that items should be barcoded. Is the issue that sometimes the bar code is missing/unreadable so you need to look it up? Can you give an example of where an issue has been raised by your supervisor or y bthe person watching over you at the till?

Not grasping the non coded items or confident with tape measure. It was ok in the end.

We can all  learn from  our mistakes; rememberimg what we did wrong and ensure not to make the same mistake again. 

Keep on practising on the non-barcoded items and you will get there .  It appears that you are improving

Abbey, you/we have dealt with that many, many times. You just stop faffing around and tell her the truth- your hours have been cut until you get the hang of certain aspects. And you can add that you're making progress already with that.

I went to a physic and they said my futre is doing well in a new job. I will do well finally and move put, my parents worry about me, I will pass my driving test and will married but no sign of children.
