Is it possible to change my daughters surname without it costing me �88 through a solicitor

...I changed my daughter's surname 10 years ago, I think I only paid around �15 , it can't have gone up that much.!...basically what you do is inform who you need to about her new name, such as doctors, school, dentist, child benefit agency, bank etc, you can do this without any solicitor.... then the solicitor will draw up a "letter" and witness the name change , you will need these documents when she is older , when she needs a passport, or getting married, this is what you pay for, her name on her birth certificate remains the same though....

Yes, and you don't have to use a solicitor. You can change your daughter's surname and her new surname is known as an "assumed name." You have to do all the usual notifications such as school, GP etc. One of my nieces did this with her daughter. When the child needed to apply for a passport all my niece had to do was forward a letter (Ithink she asked the child's headteacher to write it) saying that the child who was born as A.N. Other has been known as A.N. Bloggs for x years.
