Freezing Saturday afternoon so we are warm watching Banned Songs by the BBC that were on BBC 4
I always thought Lola by the KINKS was about a prostitute , it was about a transvestite although it was banned for that, it was because it originally contained the words Coca Cola ??
It's really worth a watch , the BBC 'banned' all the Death Songs like Tell Laura I love her and Johnny Remember Me
I want your Sex by George Michael

Apparently, the BBC, thought it unsuitable, as it might upset stutterers..
A certain lyric in Whole Lotta Love doesn't mean some think it means.

Patsy that made me lol although it'll be true, what silly reasons they banned songs for :0(
Really, Tigger. Always thought, "I'm gonna give you every inch of my love" does what it says on the tin ;-)

Wonder what Whole Lotta Rosie means?
Not that one, Ken ;o)
They have played Walk On The Wild Side for decades, and recently, they censored Oliver's Army.

Clearly the notion of what gives offence is a moveable feast.
Patsy - // Apparently, the BBC, thought it unsuitable, as it might upset stutterers.. //

They'd be even more upset if they knew that the stuttering was reference to amphetamine consumption by Mods, which caused them to stutter.
Bobbisox - // Wonder what Whole Lotta Rosie means? //

It's a reference to a plus-size groupie experienced by lead singer Bon Scott.
Wonder what Whole Lotta Rosie means?

42, 39, 56, you could say she's got it all...
Ken - // Can't mention Coca Cola but can allow Tom Jones to sing about stabbing Delilah to death???? //

Delilah is a song in the 'murder ballad' cannon, a recognised genre - as is The Wild Rose by Nick Cave and Kylie.

Thanks A-H
burlyshirley - // Did they ban 'Relax' by that Frankie bloke ? //

Mike Read famously harumphed on his Breakfast Show that he took offence at the record and the image in the record sleeve, not knowing that the BBC had already opted not to play it - the BBC often coyly got round being accused of censorship by advising that they 'declined to put the record on their playlist' which means it's not played, but they can't be accused of actually banning it.

The BBC was roundly embarrassed because the single was a massive hit twice over, and night time presenters John Peel and Kid Jensen continued to play it on their shows.

In the end, the BBC quietly dropped the ban and the single was featured in the Christmas TOTP that year.
Was there no mention of Young Girl by Gary Puckett and The Union Gap? Or his other hit which I can't remember but again focussed on an older bloke and an underage girl I seem to think.
