Racial Abuse?

An inappropriate remark, but 'Racial Abuse'? I don't really think so.

We do not know what prompted this elderly gentleman to make this remark, but we do know he could have worded it better.

A small proportion of children (from whatever tribe) behave badly in supermarkets and other establishments, without any redress from their parents.

Surely if Ms Husain had a grievance with the 'elderly gentleman' she could have taken it up with him personally, without the need to play the 'Race Card', involve the supermarket's manager or posting it on Twitter?

Totally agree with you, AOG. This woman was told to control her children, who were obviously playing up, she didn't like being told what to do... So pulled out the "racist" card. Going to the store manager is just pathetic. If you have an issue with someone, just confront them there and then. The store manager can't do anything about what one shopper says to...

I am curious now though....

AOG, why do you think this elderly man felt the need to play the race card in the first place? it was him that first mentioned race after all?
Supermarkets are not playparks.
Of course they are not Tambo...who suggested they were?

There you go again you do not know what actions these children got up to that prompted the man's outburst.

They could have drove the trolley over the guy's foot, rammed him from behind, threw an apple at him, almost anything, we have only read part of the story.

Yet you chose to insult him by calling him an 'Unhappy'Bigot'.
Did the old man say tribe or has The Mail added it or has this BBC Twit added it on to her Twitter page.

// supermarket shopping trip when a man told them to behave ‘like proper English children’.//

Some of you in the past say The Mail add things on to a story have they done it this time or does it not bother you this time to not ask.
How would the 'elderly gentleman' know where they were born?

"Tribe" was used well back in the 50's and 60's for describing an unruly gang of kids......exclusively white.

Just go on a flight to many holiday resorts and see how kids (and adults) behave in the airport and on the plane....not all i may add.

Racist remark?....it might be.....only might be.....but no big deal.

"There I go again", AOG? No of course I don't know what led to his comment, similarly I was not particularly happy with the mother who was letting her child on a scooter belt round Morrisons last week, but I didn't offer a racial insult. We have indeed only read part of the story. I'm not saying he shouldn't have objected to their behaviour, not at all.
Which is easy to say coming from a middle class white man Sqad...
If only the rest of us could see the world through the eyes of grumpy elderly white men....

What a superbly put point. It was the elderly man who played the race card, wasn't it?

Its astonishing when bigots try to get away with obviously racist comments, and then assume the mantle of 'victim' when pulled up on it.

I know none of us where there, but I think its probably best that Ms Husain reported the bigot. Its for his own good. I mean, say if he said it to someone who decided to start rowing with him? It could've gotten physical, and then God only knows what the outcome would be!

/// I don't think a 'stupid woman' would get to her position doc. ///
/// Cambridge graduate too.///

Some get a pretty good training at being stupid, take the students riots for instance.
I do hope you are not going to redress the balance with another silly thread though sp ....?
Mrs average from Chipping Sodbury wouldn't necessarily have a different skin colour....
