Grayson Perry - Investiture Attire
It's a lovely outfit - good for him, the Palace said it was "entirely appropriate". http:// www.tel egraph. co.uk/n ews/ukn ews/hon ours-li st/1059 5005/Gr ayson-P erry-co llects- CBE-in- Italian -mother -of-the -bride- outfit. html

Britain's most eminent cross- dresser turns up for a Palace investiture in a suitable outfit that matched his prominence as thus. Thankfully we have such people, who have the courage to follow their convictions so what he wore doubtless didn't come as any shock to Charles.

Presumably, he got the CBE for his services to art.
There is a fundamental difference between a "drag queen" and a transvestite. Drag queens are, usually but not always, meant to look very obviously like men in ridiculous dresses (rather close to the Panto Dame look). Transvestites just wear women's clothing in general and some even make an effort to pass off as regular bona fide women. To confuse the two is rather disrespectful, really.

Jim...I'm now very confused ! What category would this fit into then,
drag queen or transvestite ?

Mikey, Perry is a transvestite. He is not 'Lily Savage' (Paul O'Grady) or Danny la Rue. He adopts the female name for his dressing in the particular way described in the link.
Can you tell us what you find wrong in his dressing like that? Please don't say "It is obvious" [i.e .what the reason is]. What is your reason for finding it objectionable or wrong? I don't find it so yet do not do so myself nor wish to do so, so explain what I am meant to have as a reason for objecting to it

Fred. I simply can't see the difference between O'Grady appearing as Lily Savage, and Grayson appearing on Question Time, as Little Bo Peep. Well perhaps I can see one difference...Lily Savage was wickedly funny, and Grayson isn't.
I have no doubt that Grayson is a marvelous potter, and he appears to be very erudite and interesting when he is on the Telly. He can dress any way he likes as far as I am concerned but I don't see why, if he is as talented as everybody on here says he is, he sees the needs to make a fool of himself when appearing in public. His art should speak for itself, rather than bellowing in the background, trying to make itself heard above the noise of his petticoats !

gness.......if you read our posts diligently, we are objecting to his dress at a Royal Investiture.
We are complaining that in our opinion it is disrespectful to Royalty................in our opinion.
Now, we do understand that you would happily go to dinner with a man dressed as "little bo-beep" and believe me gness......i think it might catch on.

gness...honest answer coming up ( although I have already attempted this already ! )
I don't feel threatened in any way. How a chap dressed as Little Bo Peep could actually BE threatening is hard to imagine. I just think he looks silly.
Can't get anymore honest and simple as that I'm afraid gness ! If you like the way he dresses and I don't, is that such a big deal ? Really ?
