The Same Outcry?
Last week Fender posted a news story link regarding the abhorrent slaughter of animals in a Halal slaughterhouse.

Whilst the vast majority of us agreed that it was indeed terrible what the link showed, some of us tried to argue the fact that the cruelty involved had nothing to do with the fact that the perpetrators appeared to be muslim and that it does indeed happen in 'our own' abattoirs.
Sadly, evidence is now here

Will we hear the same outcry from some of our more vocal AB members? I hope so!

The rules for slaughterhouses need to be firmly applied (more inspectors?) so that all are humane. By definition I happen to think that non-stun is not humane, so that is included in those that should be closed until they comply. Been slackness in inspections I think.
Like Name I cannot bring myself to open the link.
Anyone committing acts of cruelty against any animal in any circumstances, regardless of religion, should face suitable punishment.
As for Halal slaughterhouses, no animal should suffer in the name of religion and it's high time the Government got a backbone and criminalised this cruel practice.

B00 the evidence has always been here that cruelty takes place in slaughterhouses. Do you remember Naz (Nomad?), he was posting horrific pictures on a thread of mine 5-6 years ago regarding cruelty in slaughterhouses and also on a different thread, pictures of cruelty to ex racehorses. As someone has already said (mamy?), it's the extra layer of cruelty by not stunning that makes Halal worse but we would be daft to think that everything happens by the book, all the time, in all slaughterhouses.
I condemn cruelty animals wherever it happens. Does anyone willingly work in a slaughterhouse I wonder? Who would want such a job? Does it attract a certain type of person who is impervious to an animal's suffering.

There was an interesting comparison to this on TV the other night, when the cook Dave Myers went to Egypt and attended a family feast. The goat was led calmly out of the house and slaughtered quickly and without any fuss, in front of everyone. That goat wasn't traumatised, they cared about it. A sad reflection on life when slaughter becomes a commercial operation and the beasts are just faceless numbers.
Stunning as pointed out is hardly humane. It is also the preferred method of halal slaughter in this country and many others.
Which does make you wonder what on earth the difference is between halal and anything else. Cruelty is cruelty full stop.
Let's have CCTV in all slaughterhouses and then we can all watch our dinner being prepared no matter our religion or lack of it
