// These are serious charges. They need to be answered.//

but Janners answers may well be: " iggy wiggy wu-wu"

but for some reason we have to play out this charade in publis
so that sundry on lookers can exclaim: yes yes look ! Justice is being done

It's not a 'farce' - it is due legal process.

If Lord Janner is excused his appearance, every defendant in the land will be reaching for the same excuse not to appear.

The entire point about the justice system is that it does not brook exceptions, everyone is treated the same, that is what justice means.

Indeed it does. However if you can afford a smart Barrister and a "tame" medic, preferably a Psychiatrist then the medical opinion would be that the defendant was unfit for trial.

It makes little difference what he says, the prosecution puts forward its case and the procedure of law follows. The defendant doesn't even have to speak if s/he doesn't want to.

sqad; The psychiatrist is an expert witness, what he says is only his opinion, it is for the judge will decide whether he is fit for trial.

Not for the first time, I cannot understand the point you are making - would you care to explain please?
Sandy...in short...yes, that is the way the law works in this case.

But his defence are trying to have their cakes and eat it. They tried to stop this procedure last week, because they said that it would not be fair on an old man with dementia, and that it would cause him "great distress" and yet in the same breath, they maintained that he was so far gone, he wouldn't know what was going on anyway !

In the end, his appearance only lasted 59 seconds and Janner did not appear to be unduly affected by his appearance in court after all.

The magistrates seem to be taking a hard line with this very serious case ::

"Deputy chief magistrate Emma Arbuthnot refused the request, saying a hearing would only last "40 seconds" and the peer did not need to "gaze around the court".

She also warned Mr Ozin not to "mess around" after he argued for a "wide interpretation" of the law to allow Lord Janner to appear by video link.

When Charles 11 came back to England he had Cromwell's head stuck on a spike in Westminster.
I can't help thinking parading Janner's addled one in a London courtroom would serve no more use.
If there is any sympathy left to dish out Sandy, I would much rather give it to all this mans alleged victims.
But, Sandy, the jury is still out on whether he is 'addled' or not.
Question Author
It's not a matter of sympathy. If he's truly ill then he's escaped justice as surely as Savile, or Cyril Smith, have.
sandy...correct, but in this case, he isn't dead. As I understand it, there will now be a test of the facts, so at least his victims ( alleged) will now see some kind of justice being done after such a long time. I think they need their day in Court.
LOL...good post sinderella.
Yes....very interesting sindy !
