If he really is suffering with dementia I can't see how they can try him for crimes he might not remember if he committed or not.

///His family says he is innocent.///

Well, they would say that, wouldn't they?
Age and health is no barrier to justice especially if you are not a member of the establishment. 91 year old man jailed for 9 years for historic sexual abuse.

From all that has been published about him I would have thought that he would be unfit to plead.

ive got a very bad memory, would i be excused ?
If it was you, or one of your family that had been abused, would you feel the same Sandy?
How can he put in a plea though?

Diesel...you obviously have all the facts. Would you like to share them with us?
If he is innocent, why has he not presented himself to the Court?

He now faces arrest. Something you would think he would try to avoid if he is innocent.

Certainly NOT especially with a username like you have.
If he's suffering with dementia would it even have been his decision.
He may have very good long term memory as is often so in cases of dementia.
Lord Janner WILL attend Westminster magistrates court in person at 2pm, his barrister says...

In a case like this wouldn't a live link be an option

PS - Sqad your on fire today
Apparently live link is only permissible if the person is in custody ie in a police station.
The law as it stands, demands that the defendant appears in person - and the court is unwilling to make an exception - clearly the court believes that Lord Janner is able to appear, and the his legal counsel are playing fast and loose with the court's authority, which it is not going to tolerate.

Because of Lord Janner's health issues, the court will hear the evidence, but there will be no verdict and no sentence.

So in fact, justice is absolutely being served because legal process is being followed.

If the court sanctions Lord Jenner not appearing, then the flood gates will open for all manner of accused not to appear - so that is why they are not backing down.
naomi, his family is saying that he has almost no language. No mention of his alleged level of comprehension.
If Janner appears agitated "we will immediately abort that part [of proceedings] and continue in his absence," deputy chief magistrate says...
dieseldick - //hes playing the system like a deck of cards, dirty filthy old ********. //

Innocent until proven guilty.
woofgang, I realise that... just saying that if the accusations are accurate he's not necessarily forgotten what he did.
