If something is in my eye-line that offends me, I merely have to rotate my eyes a few degrees in either direction, and it is not longer in my eye-line. If something offends you like this, you have the option to look away. I'm on the mother's side on this one.
I'm not really sure why it's considered newsworthy though. What story are we going to have tomorrow - 'Man insulted on bus' perhaps? ....A man has spoken out about the time he was on a bus and he got into an argument with some yobs about where to sit so they called him a slaphead which left him feeling intimidated and upset......blah blah blah. Manners and respect seem to go out of the window.
Being discreet indicates keeping a low profile. This lady has caused even more exposure by relating this tale and one has to question her real motives.
